Having a blog is scary. Which is why I’ve put off doing it for years.
I love writing, but not as myself. In the voices of other people, other characters, I can say outrageous, wild, weird things that come from my head, even though they aren’t the total of me.
But in this blog, it’s just me, talking and thinking on the page. Why am I doing it? Because, a year after having my debut novel published, I realise the world won’t be beating a path to my remote and rural door. I need to have a public profile – I love it when people read and buy my book, but as a writer, I can get lazy.
Knowing that this blog is here, I have to face that page and make a mark.
I hope you, the reader, will enjoy the marks I make.
Thank you for being a reader.
Fan, it’s Wiz here (lately of Authonomy and the Phoenix Literary Group!). I recently finished Micka. Just wonderful. A visceral, potent read and as a fan of Blake Morrison’s “As If”, it struck a particularly poignant chord. Was there an inspiration there, I wonder?
Anyway, just putting final tweaks to my own book, and hard at work on the next two. Just popped onto Authonomy for a read of The Dollywagglers and it won’t let me. They must have changed the modus operandi recently to only registered members being allowed to read the uploaded MSs. Do you still have my email address, and if so, are you minded to zap me over TDW for a read? I can give you a crit, too, if wanted!
I’m behind on things, but please say hi to all on the PLC, and tell Harriet, Fontaine and Gordon I will email them shortly!
All love,
Wiz
Hi Wiz – lovely to have a word from you. Not influenced by ‘As If’, though I have read it. Real life was my inspiration – and the kids of Newcastle,West Midlands and Perthshire. Best of luck with your book, I hope it reaches a wider public soon – xx F
I think you must be the Frances Kay I knew at Warwick University in the late 60s? If so, it would be good to hear from you. (The clue is in my email address.)
Hi John, indeed I remember you directing The Duchess of Malfi which gave John McC his debut into Warwick drama… I’ll email you.
